These cone-shaped flower heads adorned with yellow bracts once thrived in the unique Mediterranean-like fynbos biome of South Africa’s Western Cape.
PLANT RELATIVES
A member of the Proteaceae family, which includes the Macadamia and Conebush (Isopogon), this group consists of flowering plants predominantly found in the Southern Hemisphere.
EXTINCTION
Last recorded in 1960, in the Western Cape of South Africa, its extinction can be linked to several causes including afforestation and wildfires.
