A Smoky Floral Echoing South Africa’s Untamed Past

Surrender to the wild with Haunted Rose, a smoky, spiced floral inspired by Macrostylis villosa subspecies 1 + 2, an untamed bloom once native to South Africa and lost to invasive species after 1960. Found only in a narrow stretch of rocky fynbos, it thrived in harsh, wind-swept conditions, its survival as defiant as its disappearance was swift. This fragrance is a trace of something fierce and unforgettable, an echo of wild beauty that refused to be tamed.

Scientific Reconstruction:
Through biotechnology, scent molecules from the Macrostylis villosa were identified and reinterpreted into a bold, smoky floral. Perfumer Jérôme Epinette approached the scent as a form of time travel, reconstructing not just the flower, but the entire environment it once inhabited.

Key Notes:

  • Sandy Black Pepper & Saffron
  • Rose Absolute & Passionfruit
  • Warm Sandalwood & Amber

Why You’ll Love It:

  • Not your typical rose, smoky, spicy, and just a little dangerous.
  • Smolders on skin, warm, rich, and long-lasting without being heavy.
  • A floral for people who don’t usually wear florals.
  • A scent with a story, reviving an extinct South African bloom that grew wild and untamed.

    Sexy and warm

I love this fragrance for evening and dates. I thought I’d never buy a rose scented fragrance but a favorite influencer that’s very picky loves this and gate kept it for almost 2 yrs so I had to try. I usually buy fresh and light and aquatic fragrances but this awesome company has broadened my horizons and I’m loving it!!!

    The best scent

Honestly I’m not particularly a fan of florals - especially rose - but when I got a sample of this after placing a different order I fell in love with the scent. It has the right notes - it is a warm / rich scent which I’m always getting compliments on.

    Incredible complex scent!

I don't like flowery overly sweet scents! And this one isn't! This is a beautiful complex scent that's sensual, floral but not sweet. I feel that there is a slight musky and exotic feel to it. It is my signature scent now! Try out Future Society for unique Eau de Parfum, you won't be disappointed.

"Floral for people who dont wear florals" is accurate imo

Low key it reminds me of the "rose answer" so-to-speak to Lush's Lord of Misrule's take on vanilla. I often describe it as "Vanilla but make it punk" or "Vanilla in a studded leather jacket". Its at its essence a very bright rose fragrance -the olfactory opposite of "powdery" which for me is great bc I don't prefer softer, soapier leaning rose fragrances. Before it settles it reminds me of like the flash of sulfur when you strike a match. Its almost jarring while still being over all pleasant but very quickly mellows out into the various layers of pepper/amber/saffron while the passionfruit comes thru on the back end for me bolstering the rose absolute. Very layerable as well. I find it goes well with Fenty Beauty's Hey Bouquet body spray, Floating Forest, and the new Cloud Reverie scent that made me have the trigger finger to add to my perfume selection. (Im mourning Armani Code's discontinuation w/ retail therapy) To use my Lord of Misrule analogy for anyone familiar with that scent I find the rose absolute to be as to the vanilla/tonka in the former, the saffron/amber as to the patchouli and they both have strong black pepper notes. So yeah. Idk smells are hard to define but this one is very hot pink yellow orange. I dont have a perfume pic handy but here's my cat in a cute crochet fancy man collar for tax
