A Smoky Floral Echoing South Africa’s Untamed Past

Surrender to the wild with Haunted Rose, a smoky, spiced floral inspired by Macrostylis villosa subspecies 1 + 2, an untamed bloom once native to South Africa and lost to invasive species after 1960. Found only in a narrow stretch of rocky fynbos, it thrived in harsh, wind-swept conditions, its survival as defiant as its disappearance was swift. This fragrance is a trace of something fierce and unforgettable, an echo of wild beauty that refused to be tamed.

Scientific Reconstruction:
Through biotechnology, scent molecules from the Macrostylis villosa were identified and reinterpreted into a bold, smoky floral. Perfumer Jérôme Epinette approached the scent as a form of time travel, reconstructing not just the flower, but the entire environment it once inhabited.

We combined the intelligence of DNA sequencing and the imagination of the world's best perfumers to give new life to the extinct Macrostylis villosa subspecies 1 + 2, a small aromatic shrub with needle-like leaves that once produced clusters of white flowers for long periods of the year throughout South Africa.

    Ethereal but Spooky

    The rose in this scent is light & not overly heady. The scent as a whole is reminiscent of distant memories. What you remember your first corsage or bouquet smelled like. It makes me think of The Corpse Bride, or Constance Hatchaway. Ethereal & spooky, but still fun like Halloween.

    So intriguing

    I originally ordered the set of samples and immediately fell in love with the Haunted Rose. I am not a fan of rose perfumes but this is very different from your Grandmothers perfume. There is something mysterious about this scent and lovely with just a subtle note of rose but there just not in your face. The sillage is quiet and is fairly long lasting depending on your individual body chemistry. I recommend using an extending base to enhance this scent.

    One of the best perfumes

    I saw this perfume recommended by one of my favorite content creators and was intrigued. I normally am very cautious about ordering a perfume online that I've never smelled before, but her description sounded exactly like what I was looking for. I took a chance and I'm so glad I did - this perfume is the perfect balance of notes and smells absolutely divine. Ive recommended it to all my friends that like this type of scent!
